How Many Hours of Wedding Photography & Videography Do You Need?
How Many Hours of Wedding Photography & Videography Do You Need?
One of the biggest decisions when booking your wedding photographer or videographer is how many hours of coverage you actually need.
Too little coverage and you may miss important moments.
Too much coverage and you may be paying for hours you don't really need.
The right answer depends on your wedding timeline.
Here's a simple way to think about it.
8 Hours of Wedding Coverage
Best for: A classic wedding day
Eight hours can cover a large portion of a traditional wedding.
A typical timeline might include:
Getting Ready → Ceremony → Family Photos → Couple Portraits → Reception → Speeches → First Dance
Eight hours is often enough if everything is happening relatively close together.
Photography — $2,200
Videography — $2,700
This is a great choice for couples who want the essential story of their wedding without full-day coverage.
10 Hours of Wedding Coverage
Best for: A fuller wedding story
Ten hours gives you more breathing room.
You may be able to include:
More getting-ready moments
First look
More portraits
Travel between locations
Cocktail hour
Reception
Speeches
First dances
More candid moments
Photography — $2,500
Videography — $3,200
For many couples, 10 hours is the sweet spot.
You get significantly more of the day without necessarily needing full 12-hour coverage.
12 Hours of Wedding Coverage
Best for: Full wedding days
Twelve hours is ideal if your wedding day is long or includes multiple locations and events.
For example:
Morning preparation → First look → Ceremony → Family portraits → Couple portraits → Reception → Dinner → Speeches → Dancing → Late-night moments
It can also be especially useful for larger or cultural weddings where the celebration begins earlier and continues late into the evening.
Photography — $2,900
Videography — $3,700
If you want your wedding story to begin early and continue through most of the celebration, 12 hours gives your team the most flexibility.
What If We're Not Sure?
Start with your wedding timeline.
Write down:
What time do you want photography/video to begin?
Then:
What time will the most important reception events finish?
For example:
9:00 AM — Getting ready
11:00 AM — First look
1:00 PM — Ceremony
2:00 PM — Family photos
3:00 PM — Couple portraits
5:00 PM — Reception
7:00 PM — Dinner
8:00 PM — Speeches
9:00 PM — First dance
10:00 PM — Dancing
If you want coverage from 9 AM to 10 PM, that's a 13-hour day — so a 12-hour collection may make sense with some timeline adjustments.
If your important moments fit comfortably inside 8 hours, there's no reason to pay for 12.
What About Photography and Videography Together?
If you're booking both photography and videography, it's usually best to have them cover the same important parts of the day.
This is another advantage of choosing one team.
At Oleh Muzyka Films, our Photo + Video collections are:
MOMENTS — $4,400
8 hours
1 photographer + 1 videographer
STORY — $6,500
10 hours
1 photographer + 1 videographer + Super 8
MEMORY — $8,500
12 hours
2 photographers + 2 videographers + Super 8
Each collection is designed for a different type of wedding day.
Which Wedding Coverage Is Right for You?
Choose 8 hours if:
Your wedding is relatively simple
Ceremony and reception are nearby
You don't need extensive getting-ready coverage
You want the key moments captured
Choose 10 hours if:
You want a fuller wedding story
You have multiple locations
You want more getting-ready coverage
You want more time for portraits and reception
Choose 12 hours if:
You have a long wedding day
You have multiple locations
You have cultural or traditional events
You want coverage from early preparation through late reception
And remember: there is no “correct” number of hours.
The best package is the one that matches your actual wedding timeline.
